Comune di Careri
The town of Careri in the heart of Aspromonte has been blessed with one of the most fascinating landscapes this area has to offer.
As is suggested by the ruins of a n ancient settlement in the hamlet of Panduri, the modern town was probably founded in the 16th century on the remains of Pandora, which was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1507. The old Parish Church, which hosts several works from local artists, and the ruins of the Thermal Baths of Stranuso are certainly among the most interesting sights for visitors. A day-trip excursion to this area will be useful to gain insight into the peculiarities and geologic features of the soil on which the centre of Careri is built. A well-established tradition of hand-made embroidery is another strong source of local pride.
